I took my Optometry Diploma in Tanzania, Africa. What should I do next?

  • 2

Hello Doc.
Hope you’re having a good day and an amazing summer. You are an Icon and you do inspire me a lot!!

So I’m Veronica Paul from Tanzania (East Africa) and I’m on my final year of my Optometry Diploma Program (finishing in two weeks). I’m kindly asking for advice on how to go about this.

So, as an Optometrist (in the making) i was thinking of practicing outside my country but from my research its difficult getting a job as an Optometrist coming from Africa.
I wanted some advice on how to go about this.
Should i apply for university and scholarships abroad (which Unis would you recommend me to apply to) and get my Degree to be eligible to work outside Africa? (There are no Optometry degree programs in Tanzania)
Should i just keep applying for jobs outside my country and try my luck?

How would you advice me on this?
I hope you manage to read this.
Thanks in Advance 🙂

Hi Veronica. I did my diploma in India but since I was not satisfied with the diploma certificate alone I went for my degree course. Here in India its a four year course (3+ 1 year internship) but if you have a diploma certificate and you want to go for further studies you can join from 2nd year bachelor of optometry.
